Your privacy is important to us at Ballistics Insight ("the App," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our application and services.

This policy covers our website at ballisticsinsight.com and our mobile apps for iOS and Android. The two differ in a few places that matter, and where they do, this policy says so rather than describing one and leaving you to guess about the other.

By accessing or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide to us directly and information that is collected automatically when you use our services.

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Google or with Apple, we collect the name and email address that provider gives us, and — where the provider supplies one, which in practice means Google — a link to your profile picture. This creates and manages your account. You can also use the mobile apps without an account at all, in which case your data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
  • User-Generated Content: We collect the data you voluntarily provide, including saved ballistic profiles, rifle information, load development data, and shooting log entries. This data is stored securely and associated with your account.
  • Location (mobile apps, optional): If you grant location permission, the app records the coordinates of a shooting log entry so that elevation and weather can be looked up for that place. When you allow precise location, the coordinates we receive are precise. They are stored with that log entry and sync to your account. Location is never collected in the background, and declining the permission leaves every other feature working.
  • Usage Data (website only): Our website uses Google Analytics to collect information about how you interact with it, such as pages visited and features used. The iOS and Android apps contain no analytics or crash-reporting SDK; they do not report your activity to us.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Services.
  • Personalize your experience by allowing you to save and access your data.
  • Communicate with you about your account or our services.
  • Unlock Pro features you have purchased. In the mobile apps, purchases are processed by Apple or by Google Play; we receive a receipt confirming the purchase, linked to your account, so that Pro unlocks on your other devices. On our website, subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
  • Monitor and analyze trends and usage on our website to enhance functionality.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage). We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no internet-based service is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google and Apple sign-in: For authenticating your account.
  • Google Firebase: For authentication and for storing the data you save to your account.
  • Apple App Store and Google Play: For processing in-app purchases in the mobile apps.
  • Stripe: For processing website subscription payments only. Not used by the mobile apps. We do not store your credit card information.
  • Google Analytics: Website only. Not present in the mobile apps.
  • Google Maps/Places API: Website only, to fetch location, weather, and elevation data.

5. Your Choices

  • You can review and update your account information through whichever account you signed in with, Google or Apple.
  • You can delete your saved profiles, logs, and other data within the App at any time.
  • You can delete your entire account and its data from within the app, under Account. You may export your data first if you want a copy. You can also request deletion by contacting support.
  • You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.

6. Affiliate Links and Advertising

Our website participates in the Amazon Associates Program and may display product recommendations with affiliate links. The iOS and Android apps contain no affiliate links or advertising. On the website, this means:

  • Affiliate Commissions: When you click on an Amazon affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps support the development and maintenance of the App.
  • Product Recommendations: We may display relevant reloading equipment, ammunition components, and reference materials from Amazon. These recommendations are contextual and based on the features you are using.
  • No Obligation: You are never required to click on or purchase from affiliate links. All core features of the App remain fully functional regardless of whether you use these links.
  • Independence: Our product recommendations are based on relevance and quality. We are not paid to prioritize specific products beyond standard affiliate commission structures.
  • Third-Party Policies: When you click affiliate links, you will be directed to Amazon.com, which has its own privacy policy and terms of service.

Disclosure: As required by law, affiliate links are clearly marked with disclosure text stating "As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases."

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page. Your continued use of the App after any modification constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
